How to install WoW in 6 hours

wow_logo.jpgFound an old dusty box with a copy of World of Warcraft in it. Figured I’d give it a twirl since I bought it a few years ago, and never got around to actually install it. With my new iMac 24″, I figured it’d be a great gaming experience. So I started the 4 disc installation about 5 hours ago. Everything went fine, I registered my account and the update screen pops up. Nothing unusual, nothing uncommon. Figured they might have some updates after a couple of years - Guess I was dead on.

Right now I am looking at the third download screen of a file that’s over 800 Mb big. The first one was annoying, the second one pissed me off and now the third one…lets just say I love my iMac too much to start throwing stuff at it. Why can’t Blizzard just make on big download and have us get it over with? I have a bad feeling that the third one isn’t the last update either…

Funny fingers

I got a chuckle out of this, too good not to share.

Ok, Twitter got me too

twitter.pngI’ve finally given in and created a twitter account for myself. Well actually for my other self - the high profile blogger pseudonym. When twitter was all the hype months ago, I had a look at it and could not find a practical use for it. It seemed a limited, restricted way of communicating with others. We’ve all got instant messenger, forums, IRC, email - why use twitter?

Well today I found out that its still going strong, and quite a few other high profile bloggers have an account in which they interact with their readers and friends. Its a great tool to do some networking because anyone can join in on the conversation. Since twitter’s userbase is huge, I’m bound to pick up a few new readers and subscribers for my other blog.

Having the latest twitter updates intergrated in the sidebar, I’ll see how much of a following I will get in the next few weeks. Perhaps my first thoughts were dead on, but perhaps twitter will expand my online experience. Time will tell.

Why I’m sticking with the default theme

thumb-wordpresslogocristal.jpgThere’s actually a reason for sticking to the default theme - I want people visiting for the content, not how it’s all packaged. Sure, there’s tons of great looking theme’s out there and I could probably get a nice custom theme made by professional blog design companies, but I’d rather stick with simplicity. The major advantage is probably the reduced loading times. No big fancy headers and stuff to load, so we’re not wasting your time here. I’m also keeping the amount of plugins to a minimum, just utilizing the ones I really love. Will do a post about the most useful plugins later this week.

I actually think that this is probably the most original wordpress theme to use these days as everyone else is using anything but.

Rejected a $30,000 offer

dollar.jpgOne of my other blogs, quite popular, has received an offer of $30,000. It took me a bit of time to think it over, but I have decided against it - even though it would pay off the credit card and loans instantaneously, and leave a nice chunk for a nice long holiday. Fact is that its making money online for me and I’d only end up spending the cash in a matter of weeks. After that I’d be back to the old 9 to 5. So thanks but no thanks, I’ll be riding this one out :)
